New Yorkers are rude

My experiences:
Personally, I encountered rude people during the sunniest and the busiest days in NYC.
One guy gave me his CD and told me to give me money right after giving it to me. I didn't want to pay for an unknown CD, so I gave it back hoping I could just walk away peacefully without being scolded at. However, that was not the case. His other friend said very rude things to me and insulted me because I didn't want to give them money. I found that to be the rudest thing that happened to me during my stay in NYC.
Either than that, the people had been pretty standoffish but helpful when you need them to be. For example: I was a bit lost on a Saturday morning as the subway lines change during the weekends and this woman who was sitting next to me curiously peeked at my map and asked me where I was going. She wasn't as nice about it as Floridians would be, but she did help me out and I got home safely.

Research:
Travel and Leisure's website has named New York City the number 1 rudest city on its 2012 list.

The article goes on to say that New York has had the honor of being named the rudest city many times before including the year 2009.
The article also gives reasons why this city is named the rudest city: different mannerisms, its fast pace, and because of its diverse population.
