The Statue of Liberty is NYs most important landmark
The Statue of Liberty is a colossal neoclassical sculpture on Liberty Island in New York harbor.
The Statue of Liberty was designed by Frederic Bartholdi.
The Statue was a gift from the French people. It is designed after Libertas, the Roman goddess of freedom. She wears a robe, holds a torch and a tablet evoking the law with the date of America's Independence Day, July 4 1776, on it. Also, a chain lies on her feet as a representation of freedom.
In my opinion, this must be the most important landmark in NYC, correct?
Well let's find out!

Research:
About.com's website designed NYC's top 10 tourist attractions and landmarks.
I would assume that the Statue of Liberty would be their number one landmark, but as it turns out it's not!
It's the second on their list. The Statue of Liberty gets beaten by the Empire State building.
I went to both places and I have to say that the Statue of Liberty made me speechless whereas the Empire State Building made me excited because of its wide view.
They are both wonderful, but the Statue of Liberty is the number one on my list! Too bad it isn't on About.com's list!
Conclusion: It's not the number one landmark: it's the second most popular landmark!
